British Designer Antony Price, Famed for Creating Looks for Iconic Acts Like Bowie and Duran Duran, Passes Away at Age 80.
Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking UK-based designer behind a series of unforgettable images favored by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has passed away aged 80.
His reputation was built on his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, such as the soft-colored suits that appeared in the iconic band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "their hit Rio".
"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."
His passing follows less than a month after he unveiled his latest collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Artist Lily Allen walked in a dress inspired by the notorious black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" historically worn by the late Princess Diana.
A Pioneering Career
A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price moved to London at the start of the 1960s to study at the prestigious Royal College of Art.
Shortly after his graduation, he started his work in clothing for men at Stirling Copper and was behind the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger wore during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.
He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the wedding dress Price created for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.
Working with Legends
A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price designed the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His trademark skill to blend menswear and womenswear along with his expert craftsmanship in designing body-hugging looks cemented his status as a "genuine original," in the words of the British Fashion Council.
By the 1990s, he started creating pieces for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, such as a number of outfits for her American tour after becoming Duchess.
After a career spanning over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London last month in conjunction with the design house 16Arlington.

The industry laments the passing to a authentic original whose legacy on fashion and music remains profoundly felt.
