Jurgen Klopp admits a return to lead Liverpool is plausible in theory.

The German coach, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, remarked that returning someday remains a possibility. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful nine-year spell that included continental glory and ending the club's long wait for three decades, currently occupies positions as head of global soccer within the Red Bull organization and as an advisor to Germany's league body.

Fan Sentiment and His Frank Comments

Liverpool won the Premier League under Arne Slot, but many fans who revere Klopp would embrace the idea of his potential comeback. During an extensive chat, he explained to Steven Bartlett: “I declared I will never coach a different club on English soil. Which implies in case it's my former club...yes. In theory, it could happen.”

“I’m 58, so the choice could be mine in a few years, it's uncertain. Must I choose now? If so, I wouldn't return. Luckily, no such pressure exists. I'll wait and observe how things unfold.”

Conditions for a Comeback

Pressed on which situations must arise to tempt his return to management, he revealed he isn't eager to such a return. “I'm not entirely sure, My present work fulfills me,” he stated. “I don't crave being a coach; I don’t miss standing during downpours for two-and-a-half or three hours; I'm glad to skip press conferences multiple times weekly or having 10-12 interviews weekly.

“I don’t miss the dressing room as a dressing room, but sitting in a restaurant with the players enjoying conversation, that’s nice. We won a lot of games meaning regularly great spirits at the club. I still have Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled for example.”

Praise for His Successor

He commended regarding Arne Slot, crediting him for the tweaks which secured the championship last campaign. They've been defeated four consecutive matches in every contest after a summer spending spree, but he rubbished the idea of it representing the start of a downward turn.

“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, critics will regret if spoken against. A remarkable prospect. The French striker, superb talent. They have a strong balanced team. You don’t have to worry regarding the Reds, things will improve.”

Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward

Klopp also spoke emotionally regarding the passing of the Portuguese star, whom he brought in during his tenure, and the effect on Liverpool. Jota died tragically in a car crash together with his sibling in July.

“Who can fill the void of somebody like Diogo? It’s not about his footballing ability, his personality mattered. I struggle to conceive the team environment missing him. Putting it into words is tough about it. A profound tragedy for the entire squad too. No one within the club might employ it to justify results though it's a fact. Being in that space which he filled completely. Dealing with that on a personal level is challenging. Overwhelming.”
