Manchester United Poised to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for United
The forward, with half a year left on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move are now finalised.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be building positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further business:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
