Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's natural for questions to be raised about his future following a further convincing loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their ninth loss in 12 matches, representing the club's poorest streak after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a punishing evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I have got significant backing from the top,” the coach commented.
“It would be great to change things and secure a win of course but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it's typical that people question you.”
He continued, “I am OK with my role. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with The Board
Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the team officials, the head coach explained:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular exchanges I perceive the trust. But I've not talked to them since this game so far so we'll see.”
Persistent Failings and Player Response
The manager highlighted familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, specifically poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder remarked.
“It is not good enough. I don't need to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's tough because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a period of this nature with results this poor.”
He concluded, “However we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And as long as it is removed, we’re always going to fight.”
“We will attempt to help the side return to the top, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and why it's known as the best team in the planet.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it needs to change.”
