The network's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Major Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.
During the fall season, Adult Swim welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the channel introduced a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, in the spirit of a animated take of a serene talk show. In an era often characterized by dark humor, this show's sincerity found an audience and turned it into a surprise hit.
A Significant Investment
In mid-December, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two additional seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."
A President's Endorsement
In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming sensibility.
"All of you supported this new show, praised it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about watching this lovable family navigate their everyday routines.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to help comedy break out of its current cynical streak. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we keep returning to,” said Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
Future Seasons
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially be part of that very evolution. If nothing else, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to enjoy the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
