The Showrunner Discloses He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... Currently.

Vince Gilligan could not have predicted that his new science-fiction series would become a massive hit. “The viewers have been incredible,” he remarks. “I did not foresee the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

As the debut season of the popular series wrapping up—and a second season officially in the works—Gilligan and his team reflected on the fan response and whether it will impact the future direction of Pluribus.

Regarding the Overwhelming Viewer Reception

It would be easy to get distracted by the rampant praise and audience predictions surrounding Pluribus. The creator is doing his best to steer clear of all that.

“The experience is akin to constantly eating hot fudge sundaes and being laughing uncontrollably,” he explains. “It's wonderful, but I learn of it from others, and that's on purpose. Never in my life searched for my own name online, nor do I ever want to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a bottomless pit I know I would disappear down and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

In spite of his concerted efforts, there’s no escaping the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to take it in stride and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“It is not our goal to change the plot,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not impacted by audience chatter.”

“It's wiser to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan adds.

The Big Question: Will Vince Gilligan See the Conclusion of Pluribus?

So if the writers aren't taking cues by audience theories, does it imply they already know how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? Essentially yes… sort of.

“We've developed some compelling concepts about how the story could conclude,” he states. “yet we stand ready to abandon a good idea for a more brilliant plan. That philosophy has guided us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we find a more perfect path and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Alternatively, if plans fall through, Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to fall back on.

“My recurring proposal is that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and we're in there,” he says humorously, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Alternatively, one could always use the classics?

“My dream is Carol to open her eyes beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV+.
