Tottenham Manager Thomas Frank Calls Vicario Critics 'Not True Real Supporters'

The Cottagers Start Strong to Beat Tottenham and Increase Pressure on Frank

Tottenham Hotspur supporters who booed goalkeeper Vicario were told later "they can't be true Tottenham supporters" by manager Thomas Frank.

Spurs conceded a pair of goals in the first initial moments to fall 2-1 to their opponents, registering their 10th top-flight at home loss of the year.

However the primary talking point was Fulham's second score when the keeper lost possession far outside his area.

The goalkeeper came out to handle a long ball and carried the ball near the sideline.

However, instead of booting it out of play, the Italy international spun and attempted to clear, but slipped as the ball skimmed off Harry Wilson and was collected by Josh King.

The forward passed the ball off to Welsh midfielder Wilson, who bent a shot into the net from the touchline recorded at thirty-six point six yards.

Seconds later when the ball came to the keeper once more, a number of Spurs supporters jeered him.

The team were jeered off at the interval, with the side 2-0 down, and again at full-time.

A particular of those jeering episodes truly irritated the manager.

"It came to my attention a few of our supporters reportedly booed the incident and jeered after, which, in my view is totally unacceptable," the Danish manager stated regarding the fans' reaction to his shot-stopper.

"Those individuals can't be real Tottenham supporters that act that way. Fair enough booing following the game, no problem, but when we are in play, we are backing each other, we are behind each other moving ahead."

Kenny Tete had given the visitors a fourth-minute lead prior to Harry Wilson's goal – with Mohammed Kudus netting for Spurs in an better second-half performance.

Ex- Premier League keeper Joe Hart remarked that the second goal was "totally avoidable".

"I certainly appreciate the supporters' frustration," Hart continued. "I know the part the keeper is performing. He's a great team player, he is a real leader in the dressing room but ultimately you are going to be assessed by your decisions.

"The keeper was deeply implicated in what ended up to be the decisive goal."

'It's In the Game, I'm a Big Man'

Thomas Frank Stood Up For His Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario After the Match

Italian international Vicario is in his 3rd season with Tottenham.

The 29-year-old stated after the game that he had to take the feedback.

"The second score was a mistake of my own, I take accountability for it," he said.

"My aim was to kick the ball far and I just struck the ball in a poor way. That made an more difficult mountain to climb."

He said receiving jeers "comes with football".

"I'm a big man, what can I say?" he added. "We can't be affected by the situation in the crowd. Supporters have the entitlement to do what they think.

"It's on us to stay more composed, to concentrate on ourselves. The team is lacking in composure and calmness to overturn results. Today is a poor defeat and it's tough to accept."

'I Was Surprised Nobody Returned to the Line'

In spite of Vicario's mistake, it was not an simple goal for Wilson to convert.

Actually it was the next longest-range top division goal of the season – after Adams' 43.3 yard goal for the Cherries against Sunderland, which interestingly also came on the same day.

Wilson stated he was "a little bit surprised" that he still had an open goal to aim for.

Ten moments elapsed between Vicario coming out of his area and Wilson shooting – which was five seconds following the kick.

"It seemed to me like the keeper was away from the area for ages," he remarked.

"It amazed me none of the back four returned to the goal line. When none of them covered the net, my eyes lit up a bit.

"[Destiny] Udogie slipped as well, which gave me a little additional opportunity. Then it was solely about attempting to achieve the right contact and place it towards goal. I had a positive feeling, as soon as it came off my boot, that it was heading in."

'When You're in a Bad Spell, Everything Appears to Work Against You'

Booing Whilst We Are Still Playing Is Totally Unjustifiable - Frank

While Vicario's error dominated coverage, this was an all-round bad performance for Tottenham to continue their home woes.

The match was their 10th at home loss of the year in the Premier League, a joint club record along with 1994 and two thousand and three.

They still have home games against the manager's old side the Bees and title holders the Reds to play prior to the close of the season.

Just a single of those victories have occurred since the manager took over from his predecessor in the off-season.

"If you are behind 2-0 after the opening, there is a mountain to climb," said Frank.

"When you're in a poor run, all aspects seems to work against you as well – the first was a redirected attempt, the next is a mistake from the keeper.

"This result leaves us in a place where we have suffered another game. Each fixture has a unique story, this game we were defeated in the first six minutes.

"We just need to continue striving. The second half was much better and with luck something we can utilize to develop."

Tottenham have lost 4 straight at home capital clashes for the initial time in the Premier League.

And they are recording nine point five attempts and 3.2 shots on target per game in the division – their lowest rates on record in a single season (dating back to 2003-04).

Former Fulham midfield player Murphy stated that Frank has to endure the criticism.

"He's got accept the criticism," Murphy said. "He has taken a prestigious role at a major team with massive anticipation. There is scrutiny and duty that comes with that.

"Their showings at home have been disappointing and they have to improve {quickly|
